Making the Case for Dual Monitors
If you own a business or manage a department and you have not provided your employees with dual monitors, you’re doing a great disservice not only to your people, but to your business as well.
Speaking from experience, working with dual monitors has significantly increased my productivity. Employees who feel productive are happier employees. No one likes spinning their wheels for no good reason. Using one monitor to manage multiple tasks and applications can definitely be put under the “wheel spinning” category. With dual monitors, there is no more minimizing and maximizing windows, toggling back and forth between spreadsheets, e-mails, and other applications. All those mouse clicks add up and waste time.
Another benefit of utilizing dual monitors is the decreased need to print, which is good for the environment and good for the company pocketbook. The investment in purchasing more monitors will pay for itself with a reduction in money spent on paper and ink AND the increased productivity you will get out of your employees.
Finally, you will be fulfilling the needs and expectations of the new generation of employees – the Millennials. The number of Millennials in the workforce is now greater than the number of Baby Boomers or Generation X’ers, a statistic that can’t be ignored. The newest generation gets a bad rap for their perceived sense of entitlement. Their strength, however, lies in their optimism, their desire to make a difference, and their ability to use technology to its maximum effectiveness. If you, as an owner or a manager, don’t provide this group a set of technologically current tools to perform their jobs, you will get, in return, a dissatisfied and unfulfilled employee. An employee who will have no problem seeking out another company that will provide those tools. The Millennials are innately innovative and bring a lot to the table. They are a talented group. If you want to attract the best talent your organization can attract, it’s time to start keeping the Millennials in mind when developing your IT plan.
Regardless of what generation your employees fall in, a dual monitor setup can be appreciated by all. It is one of the cheapest things you can do to start modernizing your office if you haven’t started already. There’s still plenty of other things to do, but this small investment is a step in the right direction.
